Looks like the PCM is not getting power.
The PCM has to provide ground to the coil packs in the fire order sequence or no spark.
There are fuses depending on your build.
A mini fuse block check #1.
Dash panel check #30.
Relay #6 in Pwr dist. box.
Power dist. box #24.
You need a copy of the owners manuel to have all this info.
Good luck.
We ran a scan on it and no codes ( I had the battery disconnected a couple of hours)and the PCM is communicating. My mechanic friend recommended changing the cam position sensor as well. The coil pack is getting power but no fire signal. I will post up results as I go along.
Thanks again for your replies and ideas. Awesome forum here.

Thanks for the specific info. I checked all the fuses but will look again at those specific ones. appreciate the info.
Malfunction Indicator Lamp, aka, the check engine light.
Cam sensors cannot cause a "crank, no fire" symptom although the crank sensor can. Unlike you like wasting money, avoid the urge to replace parts on a whim.

I value your input and, I assure you that I have no urge to replace parts on a whim. I have tried to be methodical in my approach to this issue and was taking the advice of a friend when it came to the cam sensor.
Is it possible I purchased a defective crank sensor? Is there a test procedure for that sensor and connector I should perform? And.....thanks in advance.
Cam sensor is near the top of the engine. The crank sensor is going to be down near the crankshaft. I'm not familiar with where it is on the 4.2 engines, but some of the V8s it's usually buried under the A/C compressor.
