I am in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on a fishing trip. On way back to camp from bait shop all of a suddent there was a flapping, popping sound from right side. Sounded like something picked up by tire slapping. Upon further inspection the bolts on the back fuel injector seem to have come out and the fuel iinjector has popped off and laying at a 45 degree angle from where it was making it sound like a John Deere.
I would expect there is more to putiing this back in place then to simply getting two small bolts to insert and put it back in. I would have to remove some hoses to get at it. It'd a1999 Ford v-10 Superduty.
If I get it to a shop or get someone out to work on it what should I be aware of to keep from getting ripped off? At least the fish aren't biting and it is suppose to rain tomorrow.
My idea of what happened is wrong. It is the coil that was partially off and upon further examination the bottom part of the coil has a spring that probably slips over the plug. The spring is rather mangled and the rubber that was around that part of the coil is ripped and torn apart in pieces. Upon further explanation we found a spark plug laying in the area and there is no gap. It looks like something hit it and compresed it against the electrode. At first I thought the mechanic that changed my plugs at around 80,000 miles left it lay there by mistake. As we look at the area one can see a hole. At first we thought the coil slipped into that, but on further thought I'm suspecting this is one of the dreaded blown out spark plugs. It's the 4th plug back from the front so it is hard to see.
I know this is a big problem from what I have read. Truck has about 150,000 miles, runs great until today. I doubt book on it is more than $8,000 to $10,000. Any idea of what a fix on this might involve and cost? Price here seem to be about 30% higher than most things in the states.
Seem to be between a rock and a hard place and looking for ideas. Have my son-in-law and grandson along pulling a boat. We are suppose to leave Satand I will not be able to call anyone until tomorrow.
