Did I screw up?

Hopefully not.
Today I had some garage time, decided to change oil and filter in the 223. After I was all done and cleaned up, I noticed that the 30w oil I put in the truck said it was for Diesel engines. I did not notice this when I was putting it in. The truck is running good, oil pressure was reading the usual 50-60 on the aux oil gauge I put in last year. So should I just leave it or drain it all and change the filter again. Thoughts, suggestions, prayers appreciated.

I would have to guess 30w oil is 30w oil. The diesel label most likely means it has more of the chemicals in it to protect the flat tappet camshaft. Just like VR1 has the chemicals in it as well. Just a guess though.

With the new oils being made without zinc, I think that's the component) I read a few post that suggest using diesel oil because it has zinc. I run it in my old trucks.

I think Bob may have it right, in any event, I use the diesel oil in my flathead.

Yeah, lots of guys are using diesel oil in their flat tappet engines, because of reduced
zinc in engine oils for gas burners with roller tappets.

I also use Diesel. Was recommended by numerous users and oil web sites for the reasons stated above, has more zinc in it and that is beneficial to flat tapped cams.

In the past, there was an advantage to using diesel oils in OHV engines to get the ZDDP. Not so any more. Diesel oil won't hurt a flathead, but plain old new-spec oil is better for it.

Here's an interesting article on diesel oil (only): http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf

This is an excellent article on modern oils (non-diesels): http://www.nonlintec.com/sprite/oil_myths.pdf

It won't do any harm but you're probably spending more on oil than you should .
