A locker will eliminate any limited slip problems.
I'm thinking I need to budget for that. The whole thing that sent me over to look at pickups in the first place was when I realized that I did not enjoy fast cars anymore. I'd rather have something that can take a pothole head-on and get me going in the snow from every stop sign and red light.
Any ideas how much a locker would cost to install? Any drawbacks vs the factory limited slip?
The L/S that my new 05 SD had didn't work very well in forward or reverse. The L/S in my 06 F150 that replaced the SD works great. It seems that the clutches are set tighter in the F150 than the SD.
A youtube video mentions this is only for FX4 but the build it tool on Ford's website makes no mention of it on the FX4 package. It's probably on all SRW.
This is what I am looking for. A simple device that makes sure I really use the truck as a 4x4(4x3) when in snow at low speed such as when going over deeper snow or leaving a stop sign. I can live with a single front wheel slipping as long as there are 3 others to keep me going.
Better to have a locker in front Unless you put 1000lbs in back or more. Not much traction in back and takes alot of weight esp with plow on the front.
