before you invest in new hub make sure you have the correct stud's. if you are someone you know has a caliper to check and be sure. i have never had or heard of the splines in the hub being striped. but that's not to say it can't happen.
do you have both sides apart? if so take a brass punch and knock one of the stud's out and see if when you put it in the hub you think is bad if it spins or not. or try some of the stud's that you took out and see if they spin.
I ended up buying a new hub and rotor for the passenger side. It was a pain in the *** to get those studs pressed in but I finally got it. I'm at the point of just selling this thing already. I took it for a drive and it looks like the bearing from the rear drive shaft where the drive shaft goes into the axle is sticking out about 3/8 of an inch I don't know if it is suppose to or not. Plus my rear brakes don't do anything at all. I took the drums off (which slid right off) and pushed the brakes and they don't do anything at all. I changed the wheel cylinder on one side and it still didn't do anything no movement at all. I is getting fluid though because the bleed screw bleeds fluid. I'm at a loss with this thing thinking about putting it on craislist.
ok you have what i call a equalizer block for the brakes it's on the fram on the left front, that is probably your problem or you have air in the system and untill some of the air is bleed off the brake's willnot work. don't get discouraged with the truck it's old but when you get it fixed it's will be as dependable as anything on the road.
I put all new hardware on the brake shoes they move just a little bit now so don't know if I need to mess with the proportioning valve or not. How do I know when the rear brakes are adjusted correctly? My pedal still goes basically to the floor and is really spongy I think I need a really good bleed on it. On a positive note I changed my spark plugs and the thing fires up so much easier now.
yeah it sounds like there full of air. when i adjust my brakes up, first thing pull the hub off and check the adjuster at the bottom make sure it's not froze up. then put hub back on and in the back of the backing plate will be a slot at the bottom, some times has a rubber seal in it. take a brake spoon or a screw driver will work and turn the gear on the adjuster.[ i perfer doing this with the wheel on ajust the brak to where the wheel will turn about 1/4 turn before stoping. make sure both sides are adjusted equal
