Valve Stem Questions......

I was asked these questions tonight, and realized I didn't know the answers. So hopefully you guys can enlighten me. I have "E" load range tyres.

1. Does the Excursion use the metal valve stems like the other super duty's? Are these the press on type? or screw on?

2. What is the Valve Stem size?

Thanks

-The Great

I thought that they were the high pressure type rubber and metal stems.

I should go out and look, but it's late.

Here's some generic info on tire valves from TireRack:

Mine are rubber ones, same as every other 3/4 ton truck with E's in our yard.

Mine are the metal type (High-Pressure Metal Clamp-In Valves) but I think my truck came with the metal stems because it came with the factory gray steel wheels. (commercial vehicle)

Are these 65psi ones? They look like rubber. Can I get metal ones put on them?

My tire shop automatically changed mine out to the metal ones when I got my new tires... Im guessin they already knew that the rubber ones wouldn't work when I switched from the P tire to the LT tire on my 150...

so it seems like the dumb-a$$es at the tire stores don't KNOW you need to put METAL valve stems on tires which got above 65 lbs!?

I guess the next time I drive by I'll stop in and say "hey you, I want new valve stems"

They also inflated my tires to 40 lbs - they looked low on air just sitting there.

THANKS for this thread

My guy told me these were the only ones he had that could hold 80 psi. So these are what I have as well. No psi loss for me yet.

Those are the high pressure ones (like mine) the lower pressure ones are all rubber and then there are the all metal hi pres ones.

I use the TR412 rubber short stem. I haven't had any issues withthem. But I dot run more than 65 psi. I like how short they are, so they don't get ripped off so easy.
