My truck has factory tint on all 4 corners as well as the rear window. I do quite a bit of night driving and I'd like to remove the tint on the drivers window as well as the passenger window. Is this even possible? I fear the glass was 'smoked' when manufactured and going back to completely clear glass will require a totally new window. But maybe - hopefully - I'm wrong?

"Factory" tint on the front windows should not be an issue. We had it on our '98 Exploder and it looked like no tint compared to the rear windows. Our '99 has no tint at all, and I can't tell much of a diff. compared to the '98 on the front windows. I do not like tint at night or in the rain, so I think I'd notice.
Check those windows real close....maybe it's aftermarket???

Some trucks came from the factory with tint. Look at a bare bones XL next to a lariat. The windows are vastly different.
It's obvious when you have the 2 different types together. I busted the glass on an xlt and the price difference damn near gave me a heart attack. It's about 40-45% tint. When I had 35% applied on top, they weren't legal anymore
AFAIK, any tint on the front doors would be aftermarket.
if ford did tint the front side glass, they would have to be careful which states those vehicles are shipped to as there are a few where they would not be legal (iowa for one, requires 80% light transmittance on front side glass, which makes regular safety glass borderline legal at 72-78%).
your back sides and rear window are likely factory tint, but the front side glass is probably aftermarket.

I do not believe they ever did, so anything on the front windows, you should be able to easily remove. There are still some states that do not allow any window tint at all on the front windows.
I myself did the opposite and went as dark as possible. The only time I don't like it is towing @ night...lol
Seriously, I thought he was referring more of a "privacy glass" type tint. The Carlite stuff is not removable.
Well it's not normal glass haha.
Most states are okay with it as long as that's how it comes from the factory, which leads me to believe there must be a DOT regulation somewhere stating the maximum factory tint.
