Has anyone here made It so that their entire front clip tilts forward rather than just opening the hood to access their engine? I thought this would be a unique yet practical upgrade for my pull truck just looking for any tips or pointers you might have.
this is easy. for the front tilt brackets take old leaf springs and cut off the eyelet, leaving 6 - 8 inches of the actual spring attached for welding purposes. Then you can weld the leaf spring to the front part of the frame and make a bracket the connects tot he front of the body where you want it to tilt.
Weld the hood and fenders together, then cut the lower part of the fenders at a diagonal so the whole unit can tip forward.
I will see if I can dig up some pictures from the past
I have a tilt front clip on my 75 I can't post pictures from my phone.I should say haven't figured how yet.there are pictures on here just do a search.they are on photo bucket to. Under 2wpuller
my clip is air operated
Dale that looks fantastic. I remember seeing your rig posted on 4btswaps.
I was working on a tilt clip for my diesel Explorer project but haven't touched it in a while. The hardest part is keeping the radiator with the engine while tilting the core support away, once that's figured out the rest isn't bad.
They built a core support out of angle iron and the radiator stayed put on mine. The inner fender wellz, core support, fenders, hood and grill were mounted to the hinges and tilted forward. The hood hinges were still mounted to the inner fenderwells so you could open the hood normally or tilt the entire front clip. It was poorly done, but it worked just fine.
My hood doesn't open every thing is welded together.I just noticed that booths front corners are starting to crack.have to check out why it's been tilted since 2003.the cylinders that raises and lowers the clip has 120lb of air going to them.
