If I bought a early to mid 70's ford f100 or f150 with a 302 with four on the floor would a 390 bolt up to the manual transmission? Im thinking it wont since the 302 is a small block and the 390 is a big block, but is it possible? and rough estimate of how much it would cost to do so. And I have heard that the 6 cylinder trucks around that time were running 4 speeds, would one of them bolt up to a 390?
The FE series (390) are a different bolt pattern than the windsors. I think on the manuals you can just swap out bellhousings. The I6's run the same transmission as the windsors, so you'd need to find a transmission that was behind an FE.
Find a bell housing for a 360 390 and your trans should bolt right up.I believe that the transmission input shaft was the same for 6 cylinder and v8 engines if not you could just change the input shaft,
Why buy a 1969/79 F100 or 1975/79 F150 w/a 302 and then swap engines? Just buy a 1968/76 F100, 1975/76 F150 360/390, then you won't have to swap anything.
Thank you very much for the information! and ive been looking for one with a 390 4 speed they just seem harder to find, i have some time before i do need it so i can keep looking! thank you again
