I'm thinking about pulling the 460 out of my 78 4x4 to work on it, and I can't remember exactly how to split the engine/tranny.
I thought you just have to remove the inspection plate and remove the 4 bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel. Then just remove the bolts holding the housing to the block.
Am I missing anything?
What about re-assembly? Any tricks to that or is it pretty straight forward?
You're correct. Um, er, actually, you also have to remove the starter. You'll also need to support the front of the tranny. A floor jack would be helpful while you remove the engine - you can then jack the tranny up and down to get it to seperate. Once the engine is out, jamb a 2x4 between the frame rails.
