Transmission Info

I have an 88 F-150 4x4. Being ignorant my question is how many gears does my automatic transmission have? It shows 1, 2 and D (not Overdrive) on the dash slector but when I am on the interstate it sounds like it is turning a high RPM. I only feel it shift twice during driving and it shifts fine. Is the tranny a true 3 speed or is it not shifting to 4th?

1, 2, and D would be a three speed tranny.

Note that the 4-spd E4OD also uses a shifter with just 1, 2, and D.

What engine is in that F150? Or, what's the transmission letter code from the sticker on the door jamb?

I'm betting you have a 5.8 with the three speed C6.

Yeah it is a C6 tranny. BTW it's a 5.0 Engine. I kept looking on the web unitl I found it. It just seemed like it was taching pretty high. Thanks fo the help.
