Data plate trivia, try decoding this one.
Rear axle is a Dana 70 with 4.10 gears.
Built in late 77 but still a '77 model.
DSO is 87.. a "Body Company". Whatever that is.
... first owned by Richard Lawson of Spooner, WI!
F37=F350 cab and chassis
Z= Domestic special order
U=Louisville Assembly Plant
Y81135=1977 consecutive serial number
Model F378=F350 2wd 10000 GVW
Trans A= NP435 4 speed transmission
Axle 27= Dana 70 non-locking 4.10 ratio
DSO 87= Sent to body company
The Z code emissions exempt (so the sticker on it says) 330 engine really threw me, I had to run back over there to figure out what the hell was going on. I do find the NP435 manual in a U haul a disaster waiting to happen, they might as well just put a new clutch in every time they change the oil.
In this case 87 (body company) of 0902 is Warrington Equipment Manufacturing Company who put the truck together after ford shipped them the special chassis/cab. There is an additional official capacity and info sticker posted above the stamped tag on the door from them that has the new ratings with the massive box on it and such.
It was painted there too I think thus the blank paint code.
Its neat to see the Uhaul labeled radio in it and the original maintenance chart that only goes to 100k. Lotsa odd labels and stickers. Truck has about 120k as I recall now.
I was tempted to buy it for the sake of getting in over my head in a camper/motorcycle hauler vehicle with that nifty humongous aluminum box with ramp on the back but its non running I'm told (2nd hand so I don't know why) and the cab is really rusty thanks to a life in WI. I don't think id offer more than $500 tops for it as is and that's if I can get it moving. It's worth more than that scrapped.
Its actually sitting right in front of a 66 F600 with PTO driven dump bed which was the topic of another thread.
Both neat to see and tempting to own but entirely impractical to do anything with.
I can take more pics later if anyone actually cares, but there are other pics of them around on the net.
These U-Haul F350's were the only 'light trucks' to have FT engines installed.
