Absolutely. If you have an AutoZone nearby you can borrow their tools. Borrow both kits because you'll need one wrench from each kit.
No problem. Thanks to Robin for posting the part numbers.
Just work them like scissors and it should do the trick. The first time I used those tools it took a fair effort to get the nut loose. I had to wear some thick gloves since the thin edge of the tools were digging into my hands.
The nut is right hand thread....so counterclockwise to loosen (like a normal fastener...).
I normally use a chain wrench around the pulley and the correct size wrench for the nut. Mine usually busts right off. If it dose not and i can feel the wrench slipping i get a big pipe wrench and slip the jack handle over it for extra leverage that ALWAYS works
Timely thread. I've used an air chisel before, but couldn't get that to work tonight. I ended up spraying the back of the nut with PB Blaster, and using the 54mm Autozone tool with a 1/2" breaker bar to hold the pulley, and an 18" Harbor Freight crescent wrench with a 2" pipe attached to loosen the nut. I have no idea how it got on there s tight, as I put it on last time with the Autozone tools.
Any reason not to put some anti-seize on the threads when I put it back on?
I got both kits as described earlier. The one kit with the 1 7/8" wrench was wore out. I ended up using part no 27141-3 the 54mm wrench on the bolts and a 1/7/8 crows foot on the nut. I wedged my ratchet under the tensioner pulley used a 1/2" breaker bar on the other. Worked great first attempt. Thanks guys!!
Off the Ace to get a longer bolt to draw this Damper down...If it ain't one thing it's another!
You may see if AutoZone has the harmonic balancer installer kit. My MAC Tools set had the proper metric insert for my installer. I just had to stack some washers on the shank to space the nut outside the damper to turn the nut and draw it down. I don't like using the bolt to pull it down. Without enough lube on the damper and bolt threads you could damage them. Also, be sure to clean and put some RTV on the end on crankshaft snout, washer, and under the bolt head to help seal it.
Found this thread. My fan nut is giving me a hard time. I'm using a chain strap vise grips to hold the pulley and big maybe 2' adjustable. Sounds like I need to add more leverage. Just don't want to break anything. Left hand threads correct?
