So I realize I really need to get gauges. I dropped 1K last week on the truck so kinda strapped.
I just read about the ScanGauge2 ($150) and think I could swing that today. Is it going to be a good gauge/scanner for now? Or just hold off until I can afford the setup below (2-3 months)?
I have researched, Edge (this one sounds good but expensive) also right now I do not want to change my tune until I get studded and gasket.
Then add Isspro fuel, oil, and boost.
Sound like a solid setup to you guys?
The others I have read a couple of post that they are not as good: Bulldog, Banks, and any others.
Scan gauge is good but requires programming for some functions but then they all do to some extent. Several posts have been made with what to program and how to do it.
The edge insite and cts are more plug and play but more exspensive as you found out.
Ther are some phone apps as well but they require programming as well. The dashboss for Iphone and Torgue for Android there are several posts for those as well.
Some members who can help are Bismic,Bullit and Blade35 if IIRC.
Ditto with Torque Pro. While it's the cheapest by far (if you have a Droid device) at under $20 for everything, DB I think has more PIDs and so does ScanGaugeII... Oh and no way to add in external gauges on Torque either.
Yeah, I have no smart phone or tablet. I was looking on Craigslist for maybe an cheap iPad2 but it gets as expensive as just buying the gauges.
I guess that would lead me to a second question - Does the Dash Boss do just as good a job as an Edge and Issopro gauges would do? If so maybe I will head in that direction in a couple of months. Is there a delay and is that even relevant since it would only be seconds?
Right now just looking for an under $200 solution to get by until I can gather more money.... all I can afford right now. Or maybe just save and wait if it is not all that great - or should I say vital.
However, you can only read two external sources at a time with the secondary terminal. Not a big deal as changing over to other input sources is easy with a plug/unplug process. The data you can get from this DashBoss is amazing. It's so easy to program what you want to see/use and set alarm parameters to boot.
Can't wait to use it while pulling my rig to measure data.

Currently only 2 at a time...
I was just pointing out you aren't stuck with only a couple choices or having hokey pillar gauges.
I bought it with the intent to first, monitor oil temp to coolant temp to ensure the oil cooler is working properly. I will eventually monitor the egt as it's directly the result of good cooling.
I would first get use to it with the existing data and add on next. Lot's of discussion of watching fuel psi too.
Amazing what you can monitor now.
