I have a 1998 Expedition XLT 5.4, Although the truck does not have TRITON emblems on the out side it does say Triton 5.4 on the engine. I have 68,000 miles on this truck and someone told me there is no spark plugs on this trucks that it has coils? Can anyone go into details on the ignition system on these Expeditions. How does the Triton motor differ from other motors??? Also the truck has a bad bounce when over rough road does anyone have any suggestions about aftermarket suspensions for making the ride a little smoother?
The Triton 5.4 has spark plugs, but no spark plug wires. Instead of the plugs being located on the exhaust side of the head like traditional V8's, the plugs on the 5.4 are located on the intake side of th e head. Each plug has a coil pack that sits on top of it, thus no plug wires. The plugs can be a pain to replace, as the rear 4 sit under the firewall.
As for the suspension, shocks tend to be an excellent upgrade, and many have found the Hellwig sway bar for the rear to improve handling.
You'll notice a difference with the Hellwig right away. I still can't figure out why Ford didn't use a sway bar like the Hellwig in the first place - there are no drawbacks to upgrading the sway bar, and it handles MUCH better.

Hi BigMatt,
Are there pre-drilled holes to attach the anti-sway bar or is there one installed, though flimsy. Sorry for being lazy and crawl under the truck to check, can't wait to find out so I can order the Hellwig bar myself. Thanks for the info.

Don't be sorry - we're all here to answer questions!
The Hellwig uses existing holes to bolt in. Pretty easy installation - I backed my truck up onto ramps and dropped the spare. Plenty of room to work.
I installed my Hellwig in about 1hr, didn't need to jack up the truck or drop the spare. There's plenty of room underneath.
The difference in handling is day&night. I initially thought that I needed new shocks, now I know that I don't... at least for now.
Go with the bar first, then the shocks.
