I used to get my gas engine shampooed every now and then on my other truck and it looked great. So I am thinking about doing it on my 6.7. Makes the compartment look new again. Anyone had it done?
I talked with a couple of dealers. One didn't want to do it and the other said they do it and cover the electrical equipment. Getting it done at the next oil change in a couple of weeks.
Someone dented my truck in the parking lot. That sucks. Not a big dent but when the truck looks new I certainly don't want that eye sore on it. Will have to get that fixed too! Of course no note left and someone certainly would know they hit my truck. Right on the back door on the driver's side. Don't have those door protector things and don't know if they would have helped anyway.
My opinion is there is too many electronics under the hood, I wouldn't be soaking it with soap and water. If you do have it done I would make sure no pressure washer is used at least.
I did this last spring. Engine degreaser, low pressure on a cold engine. Ended up with a CEL. I pulled the codes, mind is a little hazy on it, but it was for some sensor in the airflow chain somehwere. After driving truck to dry out the compartment, I reset the code, and it never came back. Almost like the water shorted out the sensor temporarily.
As a side note, after hauling a lot of firewood, I sprayed out the back of my truck/tailgate. because the tailgate was down, water collected in the tailgate. Evidently there is a electical connector in there for the powerlocks, because that fuse had blown.
I did mine last fall with no I'll effects. I'm very mindful of what I'm spraying though and what I like to do after any engine wash is go for a good drive to get the engine good and hot to dry it out.
I lightly clean the bad spots with degreaser and light water. When I get done I spray wd40 on it and it keeps it looking good. I do this very rarely though. There are a lot of electronics. My motors don't usually get too dirty to I try to let them go a while. Usually once a year.
