This is a follow up on Elks situation and Im sure countless others,Im waiting for my motor from my engine builder (460) swap, considering L&L,Maddog. My question is what are the positives in running them inside the frame area and the negatives,,,,vs versa with running them outside the frame area. And if you can remember the hurdles that you ran into, again Im doing the 460 swap ,360/390 diffrent issues as well,,,and maybe what mufflers you followed up with Thanks
just so you dont have to go fishing for the way mine are set up right now. Here is a pic of how these flowtechs exit. they are close to the crossmember and the driveline but there is clearance.
L&L'S 460 conversion 3/4 block huggers with stage 8 locking fasteners. In my 74 Highboy.
If you have a bed mounted toolbox this is the way to go. I wanted fender well exits, but I wanted the toolbox more.
No fitiment issues. Went in without lifting the motor or anything. No leaks no B.S.
Thanks CO425,Im not running a tool box on my 75 hb,so jumping the frame is the way you would go,Ill be running the borgeson as well.Do yo u think any issues with interference their .Thanks,,,other than that Im wide open on the outside,,,,,what do you suggest muffler wise?I appreciate it "No fitiment issues. I am running the same L&L chassis exit headers and there was no fitment issues as already mentioned. I've even taken them off a couple times and put them back on with any trouble. I just wish that the guy who did my exhaust looked as good as the headers.
I haven't any experience with the fender well exits. I know there are a couple of guys on here that have them though. If there isn't any steering issues I would run them for sure. Way easier to run exhaust that way.
L&L require their perches as well. At least that's what they said. That was one of my (oh, I really need those?) moments. Tool box existance is dependant on your choice of exit I suppose.
Magnaflows with stainless tubing from Stainless works.
Ugh Grinner has such a sweet truck! Kinda a thread hijack but who makes non fender exit 390 headers?
flow tech makes them also. I have a brand new set in the garage but I was told they wont last to long. they are up for sale if your interested. brand new, installed but never ran.
How do those flotech's fit for the FE highboy's? I'm assuming they are pretty thin tubes for the price they list for? And has anyone tried the Hedman's for an FE with good results? Looking for the best economical header right now since mine are a mess.
I called L&L today, and it is official they no longer carry nickle plated headers. The quality of the header hasnt changed, just the coating.Their reason was their vendor for coatings has gone out of business. So they will be adjusting cost on their web site soon.So ceramic coatings are now in order.Business wise "they arnt going anywhere" just passing it along.
