spare tire

i have a 1970 4x4 f250, and in order to put a spare under the bed in the rear i'll have to change the exhaust a little... anybody want to tell me where they have theirs? i dont want to put it in the bed as i have a camper shell. the roof is kinda off limits too because i need to have access to the racks for surf boards.. . thanks

You could get one of those tailgate spare tire holders. Or if you have a receiver hitch you could get to go in there. I have seen them mounted on the front of the truck too.

What about those front-end mounted ones? My truck has one but I've never messed with it, not sure if that's an option, but there's my two cents =)

I'd stay away from the front tire mount.. it interferes with cooling and a lil fender bender will likely result in damage to the entire front end (fenders, core support, and hood). A guy up the street from me rear ended someone and his truck (a C-10) is AFU.

I recommend mounting it in the bed forward of the left wheel well so it is out of the way and does not obscure rearward vision. Here's an article on how to make a Low-Buck Spare Tire Mount (4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine)

Wow thanks for the tip on the front mounts! Mine is off and in the bed with a spare still on it, but I guess I'll just take it off and store the mount. I never really liked the idea of having it mounted anyways.

Ford did make an in bed spare mount for stylesides. Look in the JYs for it. I know where there is in the woods on a junk bed, and I am going to grab it.
