1/2 DEF = CEL?

New to me 2011 F250 Lariat 7.7L TD. 75000 miles traded at Ford dealer for 2004 F250 6.8L V10.

145 miles and 2 days after purchase the CEL light is on. Also have DEF less than 1/2 full message. Is the CEL light on because of the DEF message? I can't find this info in any of the owner manuals.

thx MJL

Oops: need to update the sig.

There is a TSB or two related to DEF sensors throwing a CEL.
A 1/2 full message under normal conditions will not throw a CEL.

Go buy a 2 1/2 gal jug and fill up the DEF tank.
If simply starting and running a system check doesn't show DEF full, drive a mile or so then check again.
If it changes to full and you still have a CEL, schedule some time with your dealer so they can pull the code(s).
