I have a 1991 f150 and was wanting to replace the headliner to make it unique. Im looking for any ideas the you guys might have. I was thinking a bout doing and american flag but not sure if that would be disrespectful to the flag.
If you ask me, the idea is neat, I don't see it as being disrespectful to the flag to bring it proudly with you where you go. However, it will likely look tacky if not done well.
Its your truck, you can do as you want. Tell anybody that doesn't like the idea that you want to bring the flag with you wherever you go. If you live your whole life trying not to offend anybody, you'll never be able to do anything.
I just did mine last weekend. I wish I had some pics but long story short i turned out perfect. I removed the headliner cardboard and use a hand wire brush to remove the old foam stuff to clean the board. I laid out the new cloth for the headliner on the board and made sure to remove wrinkles out of the cloth first by using a hair dryer. Then I glued the 6'x5' piece of cloth to the board using a special trim spray adhesive. Really turned out good. I'd say it looks factory
and I bought the cloth at Walmart for less than nine bucks in the fabric department. It is kinda like imitation suede leather.
By the way, you should use the flag, not only are you showing pride in your country but you are exorcising your right to freedom too. That is what America is all about.
Back when I was a Cub Scout leader I looked up the Flag Code. One of the points in it is "The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling."
Take that for what it's worth. As I understand the Flag Code is not a law of any kind that you will be in legal trouble for violating. But I guarantee that anything that violates the flag code will offend some people.
