I'm hopeing to get some educated advise. 1967 F100, 302 (I think), definatly a small block. I get a little smoke out of my left exhaust only at higher rpm's and after the engine is hot. I also can smell oil burning but my oil level stays consistant. I changed the oil a couple weeks ago so any that might have spilled is well burnt off.
Did a compression test and the left side is quite a bit lower than the right. #1, 3, 5, 7; 118, 102, 110, 116. #2, 4, 6, 8; 135, 130, 139, 140. # 7 spark plug is covered with carbon and all plugs have light oil on threads. Other 7 plugs look new.
Thought maybe a head gasket but No oil in coolant and no coolant in oil.
Any suggestions where I should go onto? Valve seals, rings, head gasket?
Swap # 7 plug wire fore another and clean #7 plug. Run it. Carbons up again, swap # 7 plug to new cyl, see if the new location makes no difference. If same, replace the plug. If plug swapped to # 7 gets carbon coated, run a compression test on 7 again and then add a shot of oil and repeat. Compression increase will almost certainly be ring related. (Stuck, worn, broken....) Before a teardown try a little soak with marvel, diesel, trans oil etc for a few days and see if it doesnt free up.
The compression numbers are okay for a worn engine. No need to tear it down. A good investment would be a new set of plug wires. That is the direction in which the gentleman above is chasing you.
you're valve seals are probably wasted , 40 years ago they were rubber now they are most likely hard as a rock ,cracked and or broken . replacing them can be done in truck with the right tools
