I've seen a few dyno disasters, plus it really stretches the limits of the vehicle without things going wrong. I just got my Powerstroke in one piece, so this precludes a pop to the platform of peril.

I have been on dynos quiet a few times. I think the most nerve racking one was the AWD dyno with my subaru.

If that were true, then people jumping on it WOT getting on the freeway or from a stop light stretches the limits of a vehicle, which it doesn't.

Sure, driving it hard like I described is worse for wear than driving it nicely, but whether its a dyno run, a stop light WOT start, or a rolling start into a WOT, it hardly stretches the limits of a vehicle.

Here is that same explosion, on FaceBook, but from the back side:

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=590717064295894" frameborder="0" height="320" width="568"></iframe>

Apparently it knocked the photographer for a loop, too.

I could be wrong - but I know live-tuners dial the vehicle for better HP and torque numbers on dyno day... this does not equate to a better-running engine. Anybody at a dyno is going to grab their hottest tune and max it out. I had no problem with that when I was stock with a tuner... but now I have to manage the throttle in my race tune to prevent lathing the tires. (I didn't order race tune... it was one of those things that needed beta testing, so there it sits when not collecting data.) I've had things go wrong at WOT, and so has Joey. Things that don't happen at less than WOT. Every YouTube I've seen with things going very wrong occur at WOT.

I'm not saying WOT is bad and never do it. I'm saying I don't feel all warm and fuzzy about strapping Stinky on stage and stomping on the steroid tune.

Wot scares me because I'm sitting on top of a stock trans with no known prior maintenance and 230k on the clock

Then again, I haven't pulled the inspection cover to look at the TC. May be a BTS In there for all I know. Considering the condition of the old fluid, I doubt that.

I know, and the very last line of the book is Alexander's mom telling him that he would have bad days...even in Australia.

Modifications for performance, whether gas or diesel, such as injectors, heads, cams, better S/C, better turbo, nitrous, custom tuning, etc will stretch the limits of a vehicle.

How a person drives it, or if the vehicle is on a dyno, can help facilitate that, but it doesn't stretch the limits of a vehicle.

Put a stock vehicle on a dyno and it doesn't do anything to stretch the limits of a vehicle. It will stay within the parameters it was engineered for.

Running a vehicle on a dyno does no more harm than accelerating at WOT on the street.

Agreed. I can only speak for my not-so-stock Stinky.

I am in the same boat, I have never tried WOT yet either. I can get the truck sideways with half throttle, WOT? look out! My stock Trans is at 226k with no signs of giving up anytime soon, I'm hoping to keep it that way for as long as possible. Buttt..... I am dieing to see what it could do on a dyno.
