390 value

im going to look at a 390 tonight and not quite sure whats it worth. its engine in a box pretty much. I think its all there. 2 barrel manifold. not sure what year. its gonna need a full rebuild. any advice on what to offer the guy would be nice. thank you in advance

If it's just a run of the mill 390, in non-running condition I wouldn't offer much more than $200 (confirm it's an actual 390 first).

check stroke to insure its not a 360. or is there an easy way

You can measure the stroke 3.50" = 360... 3.78" = 390

Or, if the engine is apart look at the casting numbers on the crank 2T, 2TA = 360... 2U, 2UA, 3U = 390

i noticed on another thread you posted chats for different coded blocks, is there a link i could to print off a decoder to take with me so i know better what im getting.

the only numbers I could find were cast into the front of the block. 352 78. the bore was 4.05 and stroke was 4.7. it came from a 67 galaxy. he was unable to locate the heads or intake. I already have the 71 360 in my truck. combining the crank and rods from this engine into my 360 will make it a 390 right?
