Hey all - I have an 05 Excursion (built 8/05 w. 05 motor) that currently has 165k miles. I've only the truck just over 6 mos now, changed over to T6 and replaced oil and fuel filters (Motorcraft only) at 160k (unsure what oil was being used before). I'm due for another oil change in approx 300 mi when I'm going to take my first sample for analysis.
Within the past two weeks, I've had two separate no hot start episodes. Luckily, I was in the position to leave the truck be and return in approx an hour or two when the temps dropped and the truck starts up.
Using my SGII I recorded the following data:
At idle while at op temp (EOT 196; ECT 190):
IPR - 21.8
ICP - 584
VLT - 14.0
FMP - 48.5
KOEoff after shutting down at op temp:
IPR - 14.7
ICP - 1
VLT - 11.7
FMP - 48.0
Cranking while hot:
IPR - 77.4
ICP - slow climb peaking at 330
VLT - 9.6
FMP - 48.0
The batteries are mismatched, unsure on age but both advertise CCAs above 800.
To add insult to injury, this started occurring just days after I started smelling a fuel leak coming from under the hood when I shut down the truck. Now, the smell is prominent and can be detected just by sitting at idle either in a parking lot of at a light.
I'm thinking the dummy plugs and standpipes...but haven't heard anyone mention the fuel leak before, so I figured I'd through this out for the masses to digest.
If you need anymore figures feel free to ask...I can provide anything SGII will take!
Check the degas bottle...found out that there is quite a bit more coolant in the res than there should be (can't say more now than before because I honestly never looked that closely at it other than upon initial inspection of the vehicle 6 mos ago). I marked the current level (hot temps) to see if it changes in the morning when everything cools down. Also, there was no fuel smell coming from inside the tank. The fuel smell seemed to be coming from the general area of the top of the motor. I checked the filter housings and there were no cracks - everything lined up.
Now for the the tech:
idle high idle
ICPV 4/5 4/5
ICP 583 1400
IPR 21.8 40.8
VREF .75/.82 1.74
And, of course...after I get home it feels like starting up hot like nothing's wrong.
My error in explaining...the first is low idle, with the backslash representing a wavering reading with low/high values and the second set is high idle.
