Belt change

Anyone change their serpentine belt yet? I have to but was looking for some pointers or tips. I assume the fan shroud must come off?

I don't subscribe to the shop manual anymore, but I believe it's a several-hour job for a mechanic. How many miles do you have on yours?

I am thinking the same thing. I have 38k and it is making noise on startup. I will take it to the dealer. Thanks for your reply.

Several-hour job for a mechanic? Wow! Shouldn't sup-prize me though as you can barely see the front of the engine.

Mitchell allows 6/10 of an hour to change it. Must not be too bad.

I changed it on my 6.0L. Most of the process wasn't a big deal, The trick was getting the right twist in the belt so that as you slid it around the pulley's it twisted the right number so that it was flat when you applied the tensioner. And those twist in such a place that you could not reach them with your hands. It was a real nasty process for my large hands.

I hope the 6.7L is easier.

Mitchell is a company that repair centers use to determine how much time is allowed to do a job. Also they have the procedures for repair. There are other companies out there that do similar things, but Mitchell is by far the largest. They also give a degree of skill to do a job. This one is rated a "D," which is fairly easy. If a shop was on $80/hr flat rate and it took .6 hr to do the job, according to Mitchell, then the labor would be $48. Most good mechanics can beat flat rate and thus, make more $$.

The manual (attached) does not make it out to be all that difficult......

"Take old one off and put new one on"

But I am willing to bet.... if it's your first time, it's going to take you longer than 6/10 of an hour

Kinda funny they still refer to it as a "Generator" pulley after all these years.
