Hi Lads
I'm having a few problems with the auto trans in my Austalian 2005 7.3 4x4 (which in USA is the same as a 2003 model )
Hoping for some help in diagnosing the problems before I spend a heap (about 8 to 10k australian) on a new one.
The trans shifts ok when it's cold if I don't push it to hard But as it warms up it seems to slip in first if you push it a little and will require the pedel to be backed of so it can chage in to second which is really slugish and slow same in second to third but not as bad slipping
some times it will miss second altogether and go to third with a hard change
I have the following codes up P0782,P0781,P0732
the oil level is all good as is the oil condition
There is no problems with third fourth or the lock up these are all shifting as they always have
I have a powerhungry hyda chip fitted if I run the stock it is better but still slips and shifts as above
Hoping some of you guys can help out with your experience on these trucks
Thanks

Hi Mark thanks for the reply mate
How would the chip destroy the clutch to much power or bad shifting pattern
I ask this because the shifting did change when I fitted the chip ?

The transmission was designed to last with the stock amount of power. When you add power you reduce transmission life. Some chips will also fiddle with the transmission program. Usually that hastens the demise of the transmission.
I agree with all above but have seen completely stock 4R100's go out new with only 30K on them. Mine lasted 130K, in law put in three, at Ford, in 120K miles with know chip. So I think you are going to have to invest in a new one either way!
Bugga looks like it's off to the trans shop for a rebuild there go's the budget
Is there anything I should be asking for in the rebuild to inprove the life of the trans ??
as I do tow a 4.5 ton( about 9000lbs ) boat around some times
I would ask for any known upgrades , and invest in a better cooler system . Additional filtration is another thought . An add on filter system would be nice .
I would check and see if JW or BTS will ship a Trans to you, they both build a bulletproof trans. It's only $5k here but I don't know how $ converts or what shipping may be.
I have sent an emial to both JW and BTS to inquire about them in Austalia but no replys as yet I think you had a holiday overthere yesterday Has anyone heard anything Good or Bad about the Ford factory HD rebuilt 4R100 HD as I can get one of them over here for around 7K fitted with 12month 20000km warranty
Hi Pilbrakid, My mechanic in Perth says he can get the new upgraded trannies for around $6-7K when I last spoke with him (I believe it was BD but I could have heard wrong). PM me if you want his number, he used to be the head tool spinner down at F-Trucks in Perth. Great and knowledgable guy with alot of contacts for our trucks and brings in a lot of stuff from the US. I am interested to hear as to why the Hydra Chip would fry the tranny by itself as I am also looking at getting one but I am a little nervous now. My tranny was just rebuilt with th eupgraded VB but stock TC.
Good Luck
Hi there WA 250
From what I have learnt in the past 24hours, chatting to some trans builder around OZ, I've been told the power chip creates more hp with less throttle or. Pedal depression apparently the trans clutch pressure is set by the pedal position so with less pedal there is less pressure and more power so the couch packs can slip
I have sent an email to PHP but have not had a reply as yet, I'll keep you up dated as find out more on this fast learning curve.
Lots of guys running Php tunes stateside, including myself. This is the first I've heard of their tunes causing any trans issues. My guess is that your transmission was already weak and tired, and the added power sent it packing. Most of us running tunes understand that the trans is the weak link, and that's why we love BtS and JW so much.
With the truck being down under, late model, I guess it is possible that they aren't that familiar with the tuning.
