Lots of guys running Php tunes stateside, including myself. This is the first I've heard of their tunes causing any trans issues. My guess is that your transmission was already weak and tired, and the added power sent it packing. Most of us running tunes understand that the trans is the weak link, and that's why we love BtS and JW so much.
With the truck being down under, late model, I guess it is possible that they aren't that familiar with the tuning.
i think your on the money there jeffreyt , I did a lot of research before purchasing this PHP hydra and it's a great product for power and ease of use
I have sent PHP a email as an inquiry only explianing what has happened and asking about there trans settings but have not got a reply as yet
So basically if I have a rebuilt Tranny with the good/upgraded VB I should be good to go with a Hyrda Chip?
Sorry to hijack the OP thread but I think it is related???
Pilbrakid are you still running the stock turbo or is that upgraded? And what was your feedback/experience on the Hydra Chip?
I installed my HD4R100 before chipping - it has the triple-disk torque converter and an upgraded valve body. I have put my truck through every torture test imaginable since it was installed over 55,000 km and 33 months ago. Different tuners, bad shift settings, monster mountain climbs while towing in high heat, wide open throttle tests until I'm tired of them, new injectors to 400 HP, lathing the tread off the tires, etc.... My HD4R100 works perfectly with stock tune settings in all power ranges... it took a lot of experimentation to learn this. I'm sure I've abbreviated the ultimate lifespan of my transmission, but it takes a hell of a lot more thrashing than my stock one did. One of the tuners at PHP had some seat time in my truck during a live-tuning session. He understands the HD4R100.
a guy i know has a mate that bought a BD in melbourne somewhere, he is more than happy from what ive heard. also is there a builder called alcorn in Aust? heard some good things there if thats the name

Hi WA
I do like the Hydra it's very easy to live with and produces very good power simple to fit I gotta say I'm a little edits disappointed in there response to my email on Monday but I guess there busy so I'll hold my judgment on that for now
I do have a banks turbo upgrade ,large inter cooler, big head valve and monster exhaust , none of which properly helped with the trans live
I did ring Ryan he has the BD trans but not for about three weeks or so as he's on holidays I,ll see if I can find another BD dealer in OZ as that,s a while to wait for my toy to be back
Php does have their own forum, and they recommend using it to contact them vs email. It can be reached from their website. Might have better luck getting a response through the forum.
Try Rocket Trucks in Melbourne. Heres the link. 60K km/36 month warranty Rocket Sports Trucks – BD Power Transmission 4R100
Like I said I haven't run one of these but Ryan talks highly of them and they seem to tick all the boxes you need? You might want to look at a upgraded TC while you have it out if the funds will allow??
I'm still awaiting a quote from rocket trucks in Melbourne , PHP got back to me and requested more info on which tunes and the PCM number I'm using just waiting on there response as there moving shop, this week as my luck would have it.
Never heard back from the trans shops in the states maybe there not keen to sell over here as they're full time keeping up within there work load over there.
