I believe it only comes on when it needs to and I am guessing it is not cold enough. Wait until the winter and don't know where you are but when the temps drop then you should see it.
Well idk unless there is something wrong with mine because even when it has been around 90 here at the rig throughout the day, after my 13 hours working my glow plugs still cycle
When you turn the key to the on position, the glow plugs activate if needed.
On the 6.7L, the glow plugs can reach 2282°F in two seconds.
This isn't something you need to even think about, the PCM just handles it.
In colder areas, it is my understanding the glow plugs can even remain active after the engine is started as needed.
I always delay before cranking but I couldn't tell you the last time I looked for the glow plug light.
I wouldn't worry about glow plugs as Kper said, its automatic.
I was in upper Michigan last winter truck sat outside two days and was -13f when I started it glow plug light came on for 2 sec then it started immediately! also no power there so block heater was not an option I wont worry about it starting again
These trucks start incredibly well in the cold. I've had a similar experience, negative temps and the glow plug light comes on for the usual 1-2 seconds. I believe I also read in the manual or elsewhere that Ford doesn't even recommend plugging in until below -10 or so. Nothing like the 6.0 where I had to hit cycle the key 2-3 times when it was that cold.
It's 85 here and glow plugs came on for a seconds then went off. Everytime I start the truck the plugs come on. How long depends on the temp. Always starts great
I wish I had control of the warm up enrichment tables in the ECU. They run them way richer than necessary for NHV and other reasons I don't care about. Most of my cars have zero warm up enrichment above 100 degrees or so ECT and they still run fine. If anyone knows of any software/tuning packages that provide access to things like this for these trucks please let me know.
I have even noticed the difference in mileage is even better after transmission temp finally gets up to where engine temp is running. So yes this truck doesn't do as well cold! but it never ceases to amaze me when I use it for what it's made for Pulling!!!
