I checked my display many times the last few days and my glow plug indicator does not show. However, it does show in the winter time when it is cold. When warmer, nothing on the LCD screen.
do you guys who see it come on every day have the LCD screen? maybe that is the difference. mine is just an XL so its just the small screen
The indicator for the glow plugs doesn't always come on when starting the engine. From the 6.7 Owner's Guide Supplement as below; Page 6; The key word in the first sentence below is "if."
"Glow plug pre-heat indicator:"
"With the key in the on position, this light will illuminate if glow plug heat is necessary as a starting aid. Wait until the light goes off before starting. Refer to Cold weather starting in the Driving chapter of this supplement. After the engine starts the light should turn off. The light should always illuminate at least momentarily when the engine is cold and the ignition is turned on."
Page 5;
"The required time for the glow plugs to be energized decreases as the coolant temperature, the barometric pressure, and environmental temperature increase."
my light comes on with the rest of the dash lights when i turn the key on but i just figured that was what all cars did, didn't think it was actually the glow plugs turning on...am i wrong?
My light always comes on, even if just for a second. It can be 90 degrees or 5 degrees, it still comes on. I turn the key to ON, wait for it to go off and then start it. My VW diesel is the same way. My understanding is if they do need to activate, they will only stay on for a couple extra seconds, but that is all it takes. I always thought they never worked in my VW, but was told by the dealer that they all work that way.
My glow plug lite has been functioning properly and now the light doesn't come on whats wrong 99 f250 7.3

The 2011+ 6.7L has glow plugs that are much more efficient and we rarely see the glow plug light so we won't be much help.

mine generally comes on for a cycle unless I just shut the engine down. If its a warm day, and i do a quick restart, it won't come on all. but that is pretty occasional. Usually see it cycle for 1-2 seconds every key-on.
