2002 Explorer 4.6l Overheating

2002 Explorer 4.6l Overheating
I have had this XLT for 9 years and it has been a great truck. A few weeks ago I noticed a coolant leak by plugs 5 and 6 which I determined was a cracked intake manifold. I bought the Dorman replacement and had the local Ford dealer install it.
Picked it up and it ran fine for about 150 mi. but then out of nowhere it overheated and pushed coolant out of the reservoir. I thought maybe the thermostat had stuck closed so I replaced it with OEM. Ran find for a few test drives. Today I went to run some errands and checked the coolant after about 11 mi. No problem, coolant fine and temp gauge normal. Coming home the air conditioning turned off but the gauge stayed normal. Got home found that coolant boiling over again but the gauge stayed normal until I turned the car off and then back on.
I will talk to the shop next week but the dealer will stand by his installation but not the parts, obviously. Any ideas on what is causing this condition? Is it the Dorman part, installation, or other conditions?
