Hey, y'all!
I just bought my fourth Ford truck, a 1993 F-250 extended cab with the 7.3 liter IDI diesel, 185k miles. It replaced my truck of seven years, a 1994 F-150 5.0 liter gasser with 310k miles and coolant in the oil.
This is my first diesel, and it is definitely forcing me to get to know it quickly. Today it decided not to start (have owned it four days and driven it about a half-dozen times). The truck is super clean, though, and I'm hoping to figure out and correct this problem quickly (so leave this thread as an intro, and not a diagnostic series).
I'm glad to have joined, and I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time searching through the accumulated wisdom that is here.

Let me give you a link to the IDI forum: Pre-Power Stroke Diesel (7.3L IDI & 6.9L) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums Great bunch of guys in there that really know these trucks, and will be more than happy to help you figure it out.
Don't forget to take a peek in to the Alabama Chapter forum, here's a link to that one:

Good luck getting your issue figured out, and we hope you'll stick around and enjoy the forums
I've read most of the recent "won't start" threads and got some ideas on what to look at... thought I'd start with the fuel filter. Local auto parts store was out (except for store brand), and I can't range further afield until tomorrow. So I figured I'd go ahead and remove and inspect the filter in the mean time, but none of my filter wrenches are large enough (and I broke a leather belt trying the shadetree method). Truck seems determined to fight me.
