Montana, I finally found the right axle at Wesleys. At least the dimensions she read were correct. The ones Millers had were not "B"s, they had 2 "A"s in the "B" box. The "A" is shorter. NOS Auto parts also had the wrong length. I also found the correct seals at Dennis Carpenter. Looks like I might be in luck soon. Thanks for your help.
Good to hear
The reason behind the axle length difference is the 60 is 1.5" wider than the 44.
I figured it was probably a mistake on Miller's part, the part number with the "A" suffix is for the LP44 axle, the "B" suffix is for the LP60 axle.
Did Wesley's measure the actual part or read specs off the page?
78-79 F250s could have a HP D60 (snowfighter package)
79 F350 has HP D60
No 78 4x4 F350s.
My mistake, typo...
Thanks!
I always heard the D60 was an option but never had seen one. I guess down here not too many people ordered the snow fighter package. Also I imagine more snowfighter trucks were used for plowing so I guess rust would destroy a lot of them. That might be why I've never seen one.
Montana, do you have the correct part number for the carrier in my axle? I ordered one to replace the old one with a spun bearing, and it is the same size as the old one, I have a gap of .382 for the carrier. The original shims were at .097 total, and that is why it fell out so easily. I am wondering if there is supposed to be a different carrier in it that is longer. Anyone else ever have this problem?
Thanks for the quick response. I called them and asked for the measurement for the length to see if it is longer. I will probably get an answer on Monday.
Montana, can you please check to make sure that is the correct part number. They called me back and it is the same length as the one I have, 8 3/8s from end to end. It needs to be closer to 9 inches.
I was wondering if putting shims on the outside to fill the gap would work. I am at the point of just trying to get the rig back on the road safely.
