Had new ball joints installed and alignment. Steering does not return to center. Returns a little on a tight turn like intown but difficult when just changing lanes in town or not. Took it to another shop and they said the ball joints were too tight. right side pretty tight and left side really tight. Moog ball joints. First mechanic says they will getter better with a few miles on them. Second mechanic says not so.
also, have new shocks but get a bouncing in the front when at 45 mph and goes away at almost 50 mph. Any thoughts? Already have about $700 in this job.
sure someone will correct me if I`m wrong but I think the tops get torqued after bottom ones and if not it`ll give you the problem you`re describing...but also I thought on the alignment that they loosen the top ball joint then retorque so you would think that would fix your problem provided it was a legit alignment ....I`ve also heard they can be a lil stiff at first to
I just had new ball joints installed a few weeks ago, and the truck was aligned. Moog joints were used. I am not experiencing any issues. Don't let them tell you that what you are experiencing is normal.
If the ball joints are installed improperly the seat and housing can be deformed . That will cause memory steer , lack of return . The proper tools need to be used to avoid this issue . Some brands are more prone to this type of issue than others .
After putting on a few miles the steering seems to be getting back to normal. I still have the bounce at 45 mph that goes away at about 48-50 mph. Not sure what the alignment specs are. Les Schwabb did the alighnment. And don't know what the caster is set at but it is steering much better. Don't know what else to say...
Ha JWC3 just caught your signature quote...Nothin runs like a two stroke Detroit! And the only time it aint leakin is when its off! We install slobber boxes on the larger indoor units, the 12V71 & 92s & 16V149s but that sure dont stop all of it! Worst thing they ever did was go 4 stroke!
