mechanical clutch issues

I have a 1980 f250 with new clutch plate and bearings and its still stiff and doesn't engage right, there is a clip on the inside of the bell housing that the fork clips onto. I think that may be worn out and causing the fork to push crooked and throwing everything out of line.

does anyone have any other ideas what could be going on here and were can I find the part to fix it, im afraid it might need a new bell housing but am hoping there is an easier way.

The clip just holds the arm in place, that's it. All the pressure and wear occurs on the ball stud that the arm fits into, that the clip surrounds. The arm can also wear in the area where it rides on the ball.

Did you turn the flywheel? You did replace the clutch diaphragm AND the disc?

Yeah, that clip is nothing substantial, all it does is hold the lever/fork in place during assembly. Doesn't sound to me like a new bell housing is needed (but I've never seen it so it's impossible for anybody here to say) but more like the clutch hasn't been assembled properly.

Have someone push the clutch pedal in while you look to see if the bell crank is operating properly and not twisting. In my experience if it's twisting the resistance causing that is probably because the clutch isn't properly installed.

the fork moves up and down instead of pushing straight that's why I thought maybe the clip doesn't hold it right

You might not have it in the throwout bearing correctly. There is really no way for the arm to move up and down, because it's made like a two prong fork on the end, and this fork goes up in a large groove made into the throwout bearing. I would take a closer look at this area.

I can't remember how tight the tolerance is from the fork to the throwout bearing.

did the clutch once and all the bearings and I think when I put the fork on I might have messed up the ball on the fork, it worked great at first and then after a couple of pushes it got real hard to push and I noticed the fork has about 1/2" to 1" of play in it I put another clutch kit in and its still been the same. im gonna try the fork, thanks for everyones input second opinions helped alot
