Need Advice ~

Hi All, I am a moma of four and have a small business hauling produce. I am looking at the Excursion (found an 03 V-10 with just 60K on it in my price range) but my hubs thinks I should go with a Yukon XL or Burb. I just want something that I can haul a bunch of produce and my adorable babes. There is also an 03 6.0L V8 FI Turbo with $114k available... which is the better vehicle?
I will only be using the Ex a couple days a week to haul, then it is just round town stuff. Would love to pick all your brains.....what do you think would serve me best? Our produce bizness continues to grow and I am looking for something that has lots of cargo space. Right now I am hauling 100 half bushel boxes a week plus an additional 3-400lbs of extra produce. Next year I am looking at 200 boxes a week. I drive about 350 miles in two days.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can share!

If you are going to get an Excursion and use it a few times a week on fairly short trips, you will be much better off with V10 and not a diesel. Diesel's are not fond of short hops, they need to run hard and long of you may have more engine issues.

I really love my Excursion. But it is all about your specific needs and purchase ability. My 6.0 PSD can do everything I need it to do and more. When I bought mine I wanted a diesel, large SUV, 4x4 and the Excursion was the only thing that fit the bill.

I would continue to research all aspects of each vehicle you would consider and with any used vehicle have it fully inspected.

Thanks for the replies, I think my husband believes that the Ex will be too big for an every day family vehicle ~but I think the Yukon XL and Burb will be too small for the cargo. At this point, I just want to go with something that has a good reliability rating and can tow the cargo. My poor little honda van's transmission had to be rebuilt last summer b/c I was using it to haul veggies and kids.
I think I will look at the 03 Ex with 60K - still has low milage, one owner and at a good price. Anything I should be aware of when I take it to my mechanic to be looked at? I think I read somewhere that there are issues with sparkplugs or something blowing off the engine??

I would go with the v10 . Have your mechanic check it over good . I see the plug issue as an installer error problem . I have yet to see a factory plug blow out . That said , if you purchase it , have your mechanic check the plug torque . They are overall sturdy reliable trucks . I would choose one over a GM any day .

Get the v10 w low miles. You'll love it as every day driver (except when filling up )
It is reliable.
Since it sounds like it will be many shorter trips I'd make sure the transmission is serviced. Have the fluid changed, there is a great DIY writeup here on how to do it and replace all fluid.
Good fluid maintenance will ensure longevity of the transmission.
Other area to watch is the exhaust manifold bolts. They tend to break.

what has already been said is 100% rock solid info.

the V10 will suit your needs perfectly, very reliable and always ready to get you where you need to go.

i've been daily driving a excursion since march 2009. from tight parking garages to parallel parking down town or the walmart parking lot i have never found a space i cant shove the excursion into. i went from a explorer to the excursion, i dont understand why everyone thinks the excursion is so big...its not. the excursion is the same length as a REGULAR cab F-250. how many extended car/crew cab trucks are daily driven? the Ex is very easy to drive.
