Have a holley 600 carb along with a clear plastic fuel filter just under the stock air cleaner . At certain times it appears like there is no fuel hardly in the fuel filter and the engine runs poorly or stalls when I least expect it usually turning at a corner under idle . I have cracked the fuel cap to see if there is a vacuum lock and can not hear any suction issues , have put on a new fuel pump (stock mechanical ) . Have checked the primary bowl side for stuck needle and any blockage and nothing . Only rubber fuel line is before and after the fuel filter . If heat off the engine is creating a problem I have not figured out how yet ? This engine is in a 1976 F150 . Any ideas ?
Those things are a fire hazard, kick up a rock or road debris into the engine bay and break that glass filter then you have 7psi of gasoline spraying all over your 350 degree motor, not a pretty scenario.
all the see-through ones are crappy- glass or plastic.
and like Montana said...glass? yikes.
the only advantage is that at least you can see what you're dealing with.
i'd only use them as a temporary check to see if there's trash coming in from the tank.
i'd be checking my float levels. if they're low, replace the filter. if the problem persists, adjust the floats.
I have replaced this see through plastic gas filter its new, clear as glass looking , not sure if its 3/8 or the 5/16 will have to recheck . Have a mind to use only the screen filter just before the needle n seat and try that and see what happens . No junk in my tank either . It would show up in the filter and I have blown air back to the rear tank to check for any blockage .
Also make sure the filter is at least 3/8" in/out. 5/16" won't cut it.
Since when does a 1/16" increase in the size of the fuel line prevent starving on a carbed motor ? He's likely got problems in the fuel line between the tank and pump on a 40 yr old truck
nothing wrong with the glass inline filters , just make a little bracket and zip tie it to the bracket to keep from bouncing against engine.
X2, the plastic ones are no better or worse when it comes to fire prevention. If there's a fire, the rubber sections will burn just as easily, not to mention the possibility of a ruptured line as the rubber ages. You can't make everyting 100% safe. Life just doesn't work that way
my filter is up by intake and water pump. a rock would have to go around my radiator shroud then straight up make a 90 turn then hit filter .
so unless the rock is a family member of the magik bullet that got JFK I think I am ok . LOL
