Hello everyone. I have question about fuel supply. I have a 78 f150 with the 400. When i got the truck, it would cut off when the temperature was above 90 degrees. I have replaced the box, the coil, the pick up coil, the fuel pump, wrapped the fuel line in cool tape, replaced the carburetor and installed edelbrock air intake. I replaced the carburetor with the Holley 2300 500 cfm carburetor. after everything replaced, the truck ran better until today. It is 86 degrees out today and I noticed when I got on the throttle it hesitated and skipped around 50 mph. When I got to the house, I noticed that the clear fuel filter that I had installed between the pump and carb was not full of gas. When I applied throttle the gas would flow in spurts and be bubbly. Any info would help.
My 460 has done this since the day I picked it up from the machine shop. The fuel filter would be damn near empty no matter what I did with the throttle. I replaced the stock fuel pump with a Holly 80gph unit and had the same results.
FordFanBoy...you are on to something! I will have to check my lines when this rain lets up next week...
Yep. Could be a leak in any of those lines. Check the joints first, then the rubber connecting hoses, then the steel lines. Hopefully it will be one of those and you wont have to drop the tank to check the pickup.
You could also take the input hose to the fuel pump and submerge it in a gas can. Be careful. And you may need a longer hose for that method.
