The filter needs to be after the pump. A pump generally does a pretty poor job of PULLING fluids, when they're designed to PUSH fluids. You don't want the restriction of the filter on the suction side of the pump.
I take it you're not doing a full-on e-fuel setup? And I assume you're making provisions to include the use of a fuel pressure regulator? Probably dumb questions, but I thought I would ask before you ruin your injectors with inadequate fuel flow or pressure.

surprisingly the usps tracking info says my regulator will be here today
I already got the filter mounted and plumbed.
Once i get the regulator, do i just set the regulator at any given position and then start and adjust it immediately?
and what pressure do i set it once running?
here the link for the regulator

got the regulator plumped in and bled the fuel system. Also cleaned the Engine Valley.. all that Diesel leak from the old bowl.
Truck Cranked up.. no reading on the regulator and pop.. the return into the regulator was not tight.. Diesel Fuel everywhere.. removed hoses, reversed lines on regulator, and cleaned all diesel fuel out of the valley.. .
cranked truck, idled fine and i adjusted the pressure to about 45 on idle. Let the truck warm up..Pressure staied right at 45, but pulsated a little..all the sudden.. pufff.. ?? Fuel return line coming from the driverside head to the T-fitting right before the regulator spit open.... Diesel fuel everywhere
now looking at that driver line, i do not see an easy way to remove it, but pull ac,vac pump and steering pump bracket....
i got enough for today...

I used the same regulator you did when I did my e-fuel. I took the gauge out of the port it was in and put a tee in, and then put a JIC fitting in either side so I could run one line from one head into one side of the regulator, and the other line into the other side, then a hose from the bottom to the return line on the engine......

this is a good idea s well.. just wish i had seen this sooner :-) I like that the hoses screw right into the regulator though, without using a t and a single hose.
But is still now have the problem, that my return from the driver side head to the regulator is busted.. and i can’t get to the fitting to unscrew it.. i really think of replacing both returns with steel lines.
