Quick B mod vs straight B spring question

Not to thread jack, but could someone remind me if the mod B is solely for the purpose of having the same rake as stock when adding the V's?

I'm finally looking into pulling the trigger this summer to do the V/B swap. I want a level look however I know just a straight B swap will actually sit lower than stock, and the V's will make it nose high. I have the rear airlift airbags but don't wanna rely on those to then raise the rear to be level (I'm looking for level pre-airbags).

Or if I do the V/mod B, if I'm still at a rake, was even thinking of adding the front airlift airbag kit to then level out the front...hhmm the choices.

Loves, I cut your post and created your own thread, since it really should be its own.

Doing the B mod makes for a tad more effective spring, and negates the need for upgrading to the tapered 3.5" rear block.

Just FYI, a straight B spring swap won't sit lower than stock.

Thanks Stewart,

Man with all these V/B threads I loose track of what I read. If a straight B swap won't make it lower than stock:

-is it approximately the same as stock height (leaving same 2" blocks)?

-if I understand correctly, mod B's WITH stock 2" blocks is alternative to 3.5" block? (for a same as stock rake ratio-ish)

-Best bet for a leveled X. V's up front, regular B's in rear? (I'm still thinking I'll have a slight rake cuz my airbags need a minimum of 5 psi in them)

I want the leveled look, just a tad higher than stock going from stock 16x7 rims on Toyo MT 285/75R16 (33's 11.5" wide) no rub, to 17x8.5 on Toyo MT 295/70R17 (33.5ish 12" wide) hopefully no rub as well. Someone with a dark blue X with black rims had these tires, but on 16's I believe after a V/B swap.

It raises the rear and is higher than the stock springs. How much higher depends on how worn the OEM springs are that you're removing.

Yes.

With V's, B's, and stock blocks with air bags, my best guess would be a level stance, front to back.

I want the leveled look, just a tad higher than stock going from stock
Again, my best guess would be that you'll have to run a tad more air than 5lbs to get a raked stance.

Awesome

Now, semi related with springs and bigger tires. What are people running gear wise? The stock 3.73's just don't seem to cut it and there is a good hesitation while stepping on the gas (v10) while getting on the freeway, and I'm sure it's gotta do with going to 33's, and it could get worse with the (almost) 34's.

It has a complete K&N intake, and I'd love to look into goodies later on (i.e. 5-Star Tune, Y-pipe, headers, TBS), but gears seem the most practical right now, and was thinking 4.56 since we do also tow our toy box up Cajon Pass while going to the desert and have even gone through the mountain on the way to Ocotillo Wells, forgot the name but they're known for apple pies

I copied these pics awhile back from here and would love to track down who's this is to ask what their setup was......

EDIT: I found the thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-on-17x8s.html So I'm wanting to go with 295/70R17's 33.5" I see this person is using X codes. Think I might be looking then at part # for new X-codes: 2C3Z-5310-AF if I want a similar setup

I did the V/B swap last fall and only used the Excursion 2" block and had a slightly front to rear rake that I was not happy with. You will notice it here in the pic as soon as I did it.

Just today the weather finally was cooperative on a day that I had off so I could change them. I bought new U-bolts, nuts and 4" blocks from Tousley and put them in. Immediately, I knew I should have done this the first time as it gives me the look that I wanted.

Much happier now. Yeah, I know she needs a bath, but the weather here has been about like Seattle for the past month!!!!

Yes, the nose was high by about 1 1/4". It really showed when the tank was full of diesel, as it sat down just a fraction more, but to me it drove me nuts! I like a level, if not slightly rear high look, and now I have it. Most people didn't notice it, but when parking on a totally level spot, the running board gave mine away. Couldn't stand it, so now it is the way I like it. Now time for bigger tires!

What size tire are you thinking of going too? Also what gear ratio do you have?

I have a 3.73 in mine and stock tires, but would like to go with the 285's to fill up the fender well gap a little more. I don't want to go much bigger than that. Just enough to make it look a little better. I am thinking about the Firestone Destination A/Ts in the 285s as I have been running the Firestone Transforce A/Ts in the 265s for years. I love the tires as they have given me remarkable service, but they don't make the Transforce in a 285 I don't believe, so I will get the Destinations.

Borrego Springs - up Montezuma Valley Rd down 79 to Santa Ysabel, then over to Julian. I like stopping in Ranchita for a little wheeling down Grapevine Canyon Rd to AB park.

Ya Julian!!!

Sean, I know you did your V's and rear at seperate times? Could you possibly remind me how your X sat during that transition with pics? And if you have updated ones of it now?

Steph,

2008: First I added the mini spring packs in front = about 2'' lift to fit the 315 tires that still rubbed slightly at full turn. Original rims. First photo, loaded to the gills with camping stuff.

2009: Added the dual steering stablizers that limited turning radius and got rid of the annoying rub on the back of the front spring.

2011: Then I bought some used V's and added those for the bro lean. 2nd/3rd photos, not much load.

2013: Added some used C's (from an F350) rear springs modified by adding 3 leaf springs from the original rear Excursion springs + the 4or5 galvanized steel 1/16'' spacers (that came with the original Ex rear springs). Kept the original Ex lift block 2''. Last 3 photos.

I'd stick with your 3.73's like Bill recommended. Just not worth the $ IMO. I'm not a ricer, I mean racer, slow and steady is OK for me.
