5.4L spark plug problems fixed?
I'm looking at getting a truck and last I knew the 2v 5.4 had spark plug blow out problems. Is it common and did they fix the issue? If not might have to get a '96 with the 5.8

There are plenty of kits that fix the issue. Timesert is one of the best, but many other good ones too. Any insert needs to be a solid sleeve insert, no conventional helicoils. I would shy away from the 5.8L at this point. They have issues with exhaust seat wear (as do almost all cast iron heads from that time period), so unless you got one with low miles, it will likely have well advanced valve recession. It will probably run anyway, but with reduced performance, economy, and increased emissions. I would rather take the 5.4L.

it doesn't matter how many threads are in the head, proper torque is the only way to ensure there is no issue
