Looking to eventually replace the engine of a '90 F250 7.3L IDI with one from my wrecked '94 f250 IDI turbo... Same engine as far as I can tell. Would this be an easy swap or would there be complications due to the difference in body style? Potential hurdles? Can't find this info, or don't know what to search for...
Are the transmissions different? The IDIT has a different external balance, therefor has its own flywheel and the NA one cant be used, same for harmonic balancer. Other than that it will bolt right in.
Both have 5 speed manual transmission. IDIT is in perfect condition so I would imagine all necessary parts (flywheel and harmonic balancer) can come with it?
The only issuse you will have is the wiring on the engine, the 94 comes out on the drivers side and the 90 is on the passanger side. To make matters even better, you can't swap harnesses between engines because of the glowplug controler being moved to the valve cover on the 94. But if your not scared of a bit of wiring, its an easy fix.
The engines are the same externally, just swap the complete engine as a unit and the minor wiring changes. You may need to do a bit of firewall clearancing on the 90, just to clear the extra turbo tubing. Nothing a bit of sledgehammer work can't take care of. No cutting and welding required.
