How do you remove the three flathead screws from the stock front brakes that separate the hubs from the drum. I have done some searches and found several photos showing the screws out but nothing showing how. I have beat on it, soaked it with WD40. I thought about heating it with a blow torch but worried about doing that to a brake drum What is the trick? Is there some sort of flathead impact screwdriver
Ive used heat and it works great. But I also wasnt too worried about the drums. They were probably ok but I never really checked them after the fact. Just heat the bolts up red hot, let them cool and they should come right out.
I actually just removed these today; I used an impact and a flathead bit set from Harbor Freight (link), I went through two sets of them, as they aren't the best quality, but I was unable to find any identical bits at Sears... Any of those that were stubborn I heated them up, and they came right off; no damage to the drums or hub as far as I can see. (Although I'm still arguing with the drums to get them all off!)
Brian, I had to drive the drum of with a 5 lb maul. It turns out the cylinder was frozen with the brakes applied. There was no amount of adjusting or reliving pressure that would let them go. It took me about an hour using a hunk of steel as a drift to get it done. I'd love to hear there was an easierv way but I could not find it.

There are times when brute force and a BFH are the only solution.
I actually tried that and was surprised when no fluid came out. Once I finally got the cylinder off and took it apart it was complely full of corrosion and possiblly sand but no fluid.
