Looking to get more power out of my 7.3 I'm thinking Turbo and injectors. Thinking I should get a chip and programmer and get rid of my bullydog? I know this is a very genrral question but I want to hear peoples recommendations. Its my daily driver, tow frequently so I want this to be reliable. My goal is 500-600 HP but I want to know what is all is involved to make that possible. All parts, brands, price, ect.
I think 500 is too much reliable power on an 02.
400 is more reasonable. Stage 1 injectors and a decent tune from one of the reputable programmers. I personally like DP, but we all have opinions.
Ben is absolutely right... those pmr rods wont hold up (most of the time) past 400hp... push it and you will get a super hi tech engine block with viewing ports so you can see the guts...
500-600 hp on a forged rod motor is absolutely doable all day long... but your spending money on full fuel, monster injectors... a serious business turbo... tunes, valve springs, head studs... basically the works... 5-10k without batting an eye.
Have you been in a 500hp truck?
Its kinda like ... God throwing you like a baseball... lips flapping in the wind...
I am at aprox 425 hp at the rear wheels and I am pushing the limits of a reliable daily driver. I am aprox 4k$+ into it! My truck is fast as hell!! With my old 285/75/16 tires it was hard to drive without spinning the tires everytime I touched the pedal in my Drag tune! I upped to a 315/75/16 and it is easier to drive without spinning the tires like crazy. 600 HP WOW! Here comes 10k$ and 10MPG?
IMO even at 450hp your gonna need a HD tranny, especially if your towing on a regular basis. If you go with stage 2 or bigger injectors, $2500 or so new, your probably gonna need a bigger turbo, $2500 with an installation kit. Bts tranny I believe is around $5000. And that's after you get your truck to 100%. (I know, It's what I'm looking at for my truck) The good thing is you don't have to do It all at once.
I have a DP F6 chip and an Infinity and love them. Here is a good thread to read if your wanting more HP.
I see. Guess I missed that. That will make it a little cheaper.
Yeah a little cheaper, but a good clutch will cost you a pretty penny too.
To the OP... As stated above, to get a 7.3L to 500HP+ will not be cheap. 400HP can be done very easily and it is not only affordable, but reliable as well.
However, if you are willing to invest the time, effort, and money, it can be done and you will have one heck of a fast/fun truck.

Sorry, ya gotta pick DD or 500-600 HP, not both. Why that number? I can say from experience that 400 HP is plenty of goop for a DD... after that it's just spinning tires (I do enough of that already).
Remember, acceleration is not measured in HP - it's torque that counts... and there's no replacement for displacement in that department (7.3L rules). I estimate my torque is sneaking up on 800 foot-pounds... and Stinky is very traffic-friendly.

no you dont have to pick one of the two.....lots of 550 horse dd's out there.....its all in the setup and tuning.....but that kind of power and reliable....thats where its gonna cost you....15k for the long engine alone......
