Hello, yesterday I installed 4 coaxial pioneer speakers and a single din pioneer head unit. The speakers sound awesome but do lack some deep bass. I would like to add a sub but I don't want a huge one just thrown into the back of my excursion.
I'm not aware of any that will work well under the seat. The issue you're going to be looking at is minimal space. They sell underseat boxes for some vehicles, but being as the X seats tumble and slide as well, there isn't enough space for anything under there. Between the speaker itself and the material for the enclosure, you wouldn't be able to slide it under the seat, much less have the proper air space for the enclosure. Small box with an 8 or 10" in the back won't take up much space. Built the center console into a box, and I have worked on a couple systems where we built the area between the dash and the console into a box as well.
As stated, a box under second row wont work because the seats tumble. if you are willing to lose that feature, im sure a custom one could be built but air space would be very limited. most guys mount them in the barn doors, or in the hole for the spare tire.
I have a pair of 10's in a qlogic box strapped sideways on the rear cargo hooks in the back. If I need to put something big in, I throw the kill switch for the amp and ****** the box out. My amp is mounted under the 2nd drivers seat.
I installed 2 10" alpine type s in my barndoors, with the amp under pass 2nd row seat;-trucks.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=26272&pictureid=97603[/IMG]
How would the subs sound in the barn doors in the back. Would I still here them ok from the driver seat? Also there is a lot of stuff in those doors that I think would vibrate and rattle a lot.
Bass is omni-directional so having them in the rear is not an issue. You can fill the void with acoustic material, but you are dealing with a fiberglass door.

They are awesome rearview mirror shaking/ sounding I used the foil tape/rubber from home depot, lining the inside of the barn doors. Somebody on this fourm recommended this rubber instead of dynomat for sound proofing.

Reason: add line
I've got mine in the barn door as well and is perfect and a fairly simple install. I've seen a couple guys that built a box that goes where the spare tire is. some pretty slick ideas.
