Just a quick question. I bought an 06 6.0 about a year ago and it just doesn't feel like it has a ton of pulling power. I had a 7.3 before and i don't think the 6.0 could even keep the tail lights of my other truck in site. I've changed fluids, cold air kit, exhaust, new injectors, filters. Any ideas?
OEM oil and cap? what weight of oil, EGR or delete ?,fuel filters changed and drained the water separator?, Tuned or stock? hows the deltas ( eot/ coolent) hows it driveing no stalling surging smokeing how cold and hot start?
Sorry about no details. Truck has full egr delete, i run an sct tune set for the lowest tow tune. Eot and ect have never been more than 20 degrees difference when pulling i would say 215 on ect. Never have had a problem pushing 30 psi boost. fuel filters have been changed. Fuel spring added. I do have larger tires and i wondered if that may be killing me because my 7.3 was stock except for exhaust and cold air intake. Truck starts easy hot or cold and even starts in the winter really easy. I'm truly at a loss. The truck is in great shape and i love to drive it.
- What's your Exhaust Back Pressure at idle, cruise and WOT?
- What's your fuel pressure read at idle, cruise and WOT? Even though you have the blue spring added doesn't necessarily mean you have good fuel pressure.
- What size tires are you running and what gears?
Before I start any major mods I've been adding gauges and fixing things getting it ready for exhaust, programmer and etc. This past weekend I added a 3-in-1 gauge (Boost/FP/EGT) (in addition to my ScanGauge 2) and found that my fuel pressure at idle is 45-47psi, 44-47 during cruise and will drop to 38psi at WOT which is no bueno. Glad I found that out before trying to up the HP.
So get ya some good gauges if you don't have them already.
How do i check the back pressure and also the fuel pressure? I have an sct livewire installed, can i see these values with this? Also would a good custom tow tune be the answer? I only have used the tow tune that is installed on the sct. The tires are 295 75 18 with 3.73 gears. I guess one of my biggest complaints is when towing my camper it seems that when i start pulling a hill the truck lug down so far before downshifting that my egt is already quite high.
I have a SCT livewire TS on my truck also you have to go to the site and plug in to the computer and download some of the ones inmake sure you put it bsck to stock BEFORE you do the down load or all your factory data is gone ! By the way I run the canned street tune and my truck runs like a gasser and get pretty good milage too !
I honestly don't know what the Livewire can monitor but I would almost assume it should be able to monitor exactly what my Scangauge II can. And so you should be able to see EBP. Another one you'll want to look at is the VGT% which I'm sure the Livewire could see. Unfortunately for fuel pressure you'll need a separate gauge since FP isn't part of the FORD OBD2 for the '06 at least.
Here's what I would check:
1. VGT% - vanes on the turbo could be sticking open or shut
2. EBP - may show if there's something clogging up the exhaust side of things
3. Fuel pressure - low fuel pressure can cause performance issues not to mention injector problems
4. FICM voltage (48 volts?)
Although I'm not running any tunes at the moment I always read that a good custom SCT tune does wonders for this engine. But I would get those things above checked first just for piece of mind.
Heading to the local diesel shop tomorrow and hooking to a 32 foot trailer so he can see what i'm talking about. post back and let you know what he determines is my problem.
Set everything back to factory tune so you know what your actual truck is doing to get the best numbers. And its probly a dumb question but youre running the truck in TOW/HAUL mode right? that thing should pull like a horse
