So is there a better solution out there than the regular gaskets? I know that the valve cover gasket leak is common, but I'm getting tired of doing all the removal of various stuff to get to the valve covers.
I know some manufacturers have updated their replacement parts list with rubber gaskets to replace troublesome cork-type gaskets. Anything like this available for the BII??
Well, on one of the cylinder heads there's this gunk crap on the head or block or something on the passenger side of the engine. Anyway, I've been having problems with my coolant leaking (haven't been able to find the leak yet and don't have the money to get it pressure tested, I'm a poor 16 y/o, heh). Just the other day I went and started my truck just to see if I could still find something. I looked over, and the gunk looked like it had some fresh liquid mixed up in it or something, like water, possibly. Well, the gunk is by the head cover, so I wonder if mine's doing the same thing. My exhaust is clean, so I dunno if that says anything, but I still think that could possibly be the problemo.
Get the blue ones from fel-pro, can't recall the number but it ends in T. Follow the directions, make sure the covers are flat, surfaces a clean, put the load spreaders back in the right place and don't over tighten.
Thanks for the replies, I'll try the Fel-Pro gaskets
Ken00, I'm confident I'm not losing coolant externally or internally. Just those pesky valve cover gaskets!! Otherwise, I'm amazed at the bulletproof-ness of this engine. Might do some exhaust work on it to get it breathing better, would love to get a little more oomph out of it.
Fel-Pro part # VS 50115R. Fits all Ford 171cu. in. or 2.8L V6 1983 to 1986. I checked at our local track where they race some older Capri's. They said the blue gaskets are a silicon rubber and the black gaskets are a neoprene rubber. They only use the blue gaskets because of higher heat resistance, so they don't stick or crack. I'll be using the blue on my next valve lash adj!!!
