Hey guys I'm new to the forums and trucks of any kind. I purchased a 1962 f250 4x4 this weekend. The truck is in very rough shape. It runs drives and stops and I drove it home 50 miles so mechanicly it falls into the catagory of trips to the hardware store. The reason for this post is that a few things are not adding up with the truck. I'm trying to buy new cab mounts. The mounts I found look nothing like the ones on the truck. The 4x2 mounts look to be correct. There is also a badge on the fender says twin I bean. I thought twin I beam was 2 wheel drive?. The vin says it is 4x4 . Is there any other things on the truck that could suggest its a 4x2 converted to 4x4 . Any suggestions or pics of cab mounts on a true 250 4x4 would be great.nthanks in advance.
I believe that the twin I beam didn't come out until 65. Post your vin number and it can be interpreted for you...Also the fender/s may have been changed and the badging may have come from the donor...
Schoo the picture didn't show?? And to p38fighter the vin is of a 4x4. My concern is that the cab was switched or the truck was converted. All I need is to find out what mount should be ordered. The mount that is there now isn't really there due to rot.
Check to see if the Vin that is stamped on the frame top passenger side in the engine compartment (about 12 -18 inches rear of the shock tower) is the same as the vin in the glove box. That might give you a clue as to a change out....
Welcome to the forum, as you know these old trucks can be Ffrankenstiens which makes them so loveable. You have to take everything with a dose of reality. One can not rely on title or cab vin and must look at everything including the frame vin.
Here are four pictures that may help. The red one is a 1966 F250 showing the short step, not more than 3 inches deep. The black one shows a 62 F100 4x4 step, note the deep step, nearly twice the depth as the later models. The picture of the rusted out floor is also of a 1962 F100 4x4 showing the cab mount. Notice how it has a rounded dish shape to collect water for rust purposes. The last picture is a 1962 F100 Frame VIN location. 4X4 VINs are more forward than the 2X4s. You can find another vin under the cab centered of the battery box on top of the frame. You can use alum. tape or clay or silly putty to get a tracing after cleaning the area.
I hope this helps your identification of the cab/frame. Of course this all assumes these pictures are taken of original cabs.

Hello Mr Green. If your truck is a true 62 4wd it should have leaf spring suspension front and back. As old broke prospector said if a 62 it should have a large step inside of the door. If no step it is a later model cab 65-66. If a true 62 4wd the battery box should be under the passanger floor board and is acessed by lifting a cover off to get to the battery. If its under the hood or in the engine compartment it is not a 4wd original cab. 62 would or should have a dana 24 2speed transfercase. Look at the cab roof is it flat across with no strength recess in the middle like 64 up trucks if it has this recess its a later model cab. See my builds in projects for what a true factory 4wd for your year truck should look like. Your 62 like my 63 should have the flat roof line. Good luck with it.
