donor truck?

I have a 66 F250 camper special. I've been looking for a donor truck to upgrade to power steering, disc brakes and a more reasonable differential.

I just found a 1970 F250 with power steering, disc brakes, factory a/c and 3.73 rear end.

Will this match up to my truck? I don't want to spend 600 if it won't work but I don't want to lose out on the truck if it will work.

Please Advise

Thanks

Pretty much anything 65-79 2wd is bolt hole exchange. You could swap both axles and go from a 250 to a 100.

Your donor will need to have the same tranny type as your truck because the steering column has to be swapped with the Saginaw gear.

Thanks John.

By "same tranny type" do you mean, auto vs manual? Or cruise o matic vs c4?

Auto vs manual. You don't want a auto column and a 3spd truck.

He said it had a c6, since I have an automatic that should work out perfectly.

Do you guys know if I'll be able to use the factory air from the 1970 in the 1966? Not really worried about it but it would be a bonus.

budda, I believe your truck has a C-O-M tranny if it's auto unless someone has swapped it to C6 already. It has an extra gear select over the C6.

Since there were no factory, but rather dealer installed ACs at that time you prolly could make it work. I would not look at anything except new aftermarket if I were going that route. The newer compressors are so much more efficient, as well as use different gas.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that I had a C6. I have a leaky old C-O-M. I meant to say that since he had a C6 and I have a C-O-M (both automatic) that the power steering should work. That is, if I understood your earlier post, John. Please tell me I understood your earlier post?

I'm not really worried about the a/c. The window wings are good enough for me but I know my girl would enjoy the truck more if I had a/c. I figured if I could use the guts of the old system and and get a new compressor (not sure I can get R22 or was it R12? anymore here in California anyway)

Anyway, I hope the steering collumn from the donor will work in my truck.

Thanks again John

They had factory air in '70. They just looked like they were an add-on box.

I was suppose to pick up the truck today. I've talked to the guy almost everyday and offered a deposit to hold it till I could get over to pick it up (I work weekends so it's almost impossible with my hours) He said, not to worry, he'd hold it for me no problem, that I had first dibs on it. Just called the guy, he sold it to a guy in ohio or some such place. This truck is in Sacramento, 6 blocks from my house. Damn.

Oh well. Missed out on that one.

Joel, Sorry that you missed the truck, sometimes ya got to leave some holding money with the owner. Maybe he thought you were a looker & not a tooker.

Yes, since the steering column has to be swapped with the steering gear, one would need to swap to a C6 from a C-O-M.

Redneck, You are sure about that, Factory AC in 70?

Ok. I found a running 1976 F350 for $400. Hope I can get a quick answer on this because he is going to call pick n pull layer today.

had power steering and power brakes. The axle code is 36. It has a manual transmission. I have a COM and would like to keep it automatic if possible.

If I buy the truck, can I go to pick n pull and pull an automatic steering column and make this truck work or should I just keep looking?

Thanks guys.
