I have an 08 F250, 140k, in pretty good shape.
Motor blew on Saturday. $18,000 to replace.
If you think your truck has anything wrong with it, go get rid of it.

They offered me less than $6000 the way it sits.
Ouch...
Im assuming you have the 6.4 based on 18k. Have you taken it to the dealer or is a shop telling you this? What was the cause of the failure, I know of several 6.4's 08's in a fleet that are nearing 200k with no issues.
Stuff breaks, but you've been given a tough pill to swallow. Like the others suggested you should get some more price quotes, there's no reason you need a brand new engine.

You had bad luck so everyone should sell theirs?
And it just let go for no reason, you never beat it, not running hot, and the oil was clean and full?

Wow, tough crowd. Haha. Yes, I shopped around. That price was given to me by 2 Ford houses. My personal mechanic told me 10-12k for a used/rebuit motor.
I baby my trucks and my cars and my Harleys. I am very ocd when it comes to maintenance. Every fluid and filter changed on time. I keep very detailed records.
So to answer a smart *** question, it never ran hot, and was full of clean oil.
As far as the cause, I am not sure. It dropped cyliner #2 badly and has no compression. My point for this post was, if you think something is not right, it's not.
I have been putting off trading this truck off for 2 months.
Although it is a major in-convenience and very costly, I am not all that bitter.
Hope to pick up my '13 this week.
Cheers

So you were just driving along with your well maintained engine full of oil and it suddenly blew so badly that it caused $18,000 in damage?
Yeah, it's hard to believe sometimes but it's not as uncommon as you may think. We've seen a few in the 6.7L and 6.4L forums with $15-20,000 repair bills from catastrophically failed well maintained engines.
Folks, Lets keep it nice. It serves no useful purpose to insult.
