Block Heater Bumper Plug Upgrade

Block Heater Bumper Plug Upgrade
Thought the OEM Block Heater Plug looked pretty Cheap on a $62k truck. I purchased one of these for my battery charger outlet for my Cobalt boat. So I decided to try and install one for the Block Heater on my new KR. Takes less than 30 minutes to install and bought the Plug on Amazon.com and was about $18. It is made by Marinco and they are designed for wet conditions, has a rubber boot on back of plug so should work well and last for years. Took some photos of install.

Here's a better photo of finished outlet. I mounted low, because I might want to add another female one above for an Invertor outlet.

They used really nice genuine Carol SJOOW thermoset cable for the block heater cable... it's not as cheap as some other automakers which give you thermoplastic cable where all the insulation crumbles off when you try to flex it in the cold. The molded plug is also nice, and reminds me somewhat of the hospital grade cable assemblies with the large plug body.

How did you seal off the screw terminals on the rear of the male inlet? Because it does get exposed.

It has a snug fitting rubber boot to seal off any moisture from the back. Use clear fingernail polish to paint the 1 7/8" hole so it wont rust.

I bought a tiny 120VAC red pilot light to mount on the top of driver's side A pillar. So it will glow when I'm plugged in as a reminder. that's a before winter project.

An extension Cord will eject easily if you forget as long as it tied up.

Nice mod that looks good. Block heaters are redundant for us guys in South Texas though.

Now an inverter outlet outside....Hmmmmmm.
